Repost: Research and Markets: Research and Development Forecast Report on China's Zirconium (Zr) Industry, 2013-2017

DUBLIN — Research and Markets (http://www.researchandmarkets.com/research/wmd6s2/research_and) has announced the addition of the "Research and Development Forecast of China's Zirconium (Zr) Industry, 2013-2017" report to their offering.

Research and Development Forecast of China's Zirconium (Zr) Industry, 2013-2017 mainly analyzes overall development status, influencing factors and technical level of China's zirconium industry, and also summarizes the related industrial policies, measures and development plan; what's more, this report also conducts specific analysis on the subdivided industries, as well as import and export; at last, this report analyzes the latest status in 2012 of key enterprises in this industry.

In 2012, China's zircon sand (including concentrates and tailings) import volume was 78.01 tons, reduced by 12.16% year-on-year; in Q4, the import price of zircon sand reduced by 27% over Q1.

In 2013, ILUKA intends to slash output, and the target output dropped by 36% over the same period of last year, and reduced by 63% over 2011. Huidian Research forecasts that the zircon sand price is expected to show an upward trend in H2 of 2013 with the global economic and demand recovery, especially with the supply slash of industry giants.

Repost: Man Returns Library Book 41 Years Late And Pays $300 Fine

One Ohio bookworm learned the hard way just how much library late fees can add up.

Even though their book was a whopping 41 years past due, an unnamed borrower returned it to the Champaign County Library in central Ohio, along with $299.30 for late fees, reports The Consumerist.

"Sorry I've kept this book so long," a note enclosed in the book read."I'm a slow reader!"

It's a good thing he or she made good on their debt.  With city governments looking to pinch every penny, some libraries have started to turn even the smallest debts over to collection agencies and credit bureaus.

Repost: Neuroscience - Solving the brain

When neurobiologist Bill Newsome got a phone call from Francis Collins in March, his first reaction was one of dismay. The director of the US National Institutes of Health had contacted him out of the blue to ask if he would co-chair a rapid planning effort for a ten-year assault on how the brain works.

To Newsome, that sounded like the sort of thankless, amorphous and onerous task that would ruin a good summer. But after turning it over in his mind for 24 hours, his dismay gave way to enthusiasm. “The timing is right,” says Newsome, who is based at Stanford University School of Medicine in California. He accepted the task. “The brain is the intellectual excitement for the twenty-first century.”

Repost: Research may deliver bruise-free avocados

Researchers may soon understand more about why avocados are often bruised when they come home from the grocery store.

A joint project between The University of Queensland's School of Agriculture and Food Sciences and the Queensland Government's Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry hopes to reduce consumer disappointment with bruised fruit, and benefit the industry with higher sales.

Consumers have reported that one in three avocados is a disappointment and that they would purchase more if they had confidence in the product.

UQ PhD student Muhammad Sohail Mazhar has followed avocados through the supply chain from ripener, distribution centre, to retailer. He discovered that most flesh bruising occurs at the retail store.

"A bruise in an avocado fruit can continue to grow and intensify for up to 96 hours," Mr Mazhar said.
